NEW YORK (Sept. 9 2009) – Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin sure knows how to make an entrance, especially in the Big Apple. Arguably the best player in hockey and known to fans and teammates as "Ovie," he rode in style to Manhattan's NHL store. His ride, a Zamboni machine custom-painted to promote a new video game, NHL 2K10, for which Ovechkin is the cover athlete.

After driving nearly a block on Sixth Avenue, Ovie was greeted by a flock of fans. When I asked him about being the cover athlete of the popular video game, the two-time NHL scoring champion said, "It's a big honor for me and for Capitals fans to see their favorite player on the cover."

When asked about the upcoming season, Ovechkin made it quite clear what his intentions are. "I want the Stanley Cup, but it's going to be hard to get. We came so close last year and we were very disappointed."

Marveling at his highlights being replayed on the store's video screen, the Russian phenomenon even had time to play some fans in the new video game. "I didn't do so well in the games but I want a rematch."

NHL2K10 is to be released on September 15th.

Great story. The next time Ovechkin comes to Manhattan, he is going to get beaten in real life by the New York Rangers.
